Saint Joseph's Hosts Runnin' Monks Invitational

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College hosted the Runnin' Monks Invitational 6K women's and 8K men's races on the SJC Cross Country Trail, which features a new layout, on Saturday.

UMaine-Farmington claimed the women's title with 29 team points, nine ahead of runner-up Emerson College. Thomas College placed third with 53 points while UMaine-Presque Isle, Central Maine Community College, University of Saint Joseph, Saint Joseph's, and Fisher College all fielded runners in the event.

Emerson sophomore Samantha Zannotti eclipsed the 29-runner field with a 25:57.1 time to become the first women's runner to win at the updated 6K course.

UMaine-Farmington also earned the men's crown with 24 points, well ahead of runner-up Emerson (59) and third-place finisher Thomas (82). USJ (102), CMCC (107) and Fisher (138) rounded out the field of complete teams while St. Joe's and UMPI also featured athletes in the 8K race.

Thomas College senior Jarrod Hooper became the first men's runner to win on the new 8K course at Saint Joseph's with a 27:47.3 performance.

FOR THE MONKS:

  • Grad student Troy Hendricks (Hiram, Maine) placed seventh with a 28:52.2 time
  • Senior Devin Abbott (Berwick, Maine) finished 15th with a 30:19.4 effort
  • On the women's side, junior Hannah Vacco (Pembroke, N.H.) posted a 19th-place time (33:54.2)
  • Junior Nick Carmosino (Acton, Mass.) was 20th (30:43.1)
  • Sophomore Ryan Graham (Hopkinton, N.H.) placed 24th (32:44.6)

Saint Joseph's will compete in the Connecticut College Invitational at Harkness Memorial Park in Waterford, Connecticut next Saturday.
