Saint Joseph's Cross Country compete at Maine State Championship

BANGOR, MAINE. – The Saint Joseph's College Men's and Women's Cross Country teams traveled to Saxl Park in Bangor, Maine for the Maine State Cross Country Championship.

The men posted 223 points finishing seventh out of 12 scoring teams with an average time of 30:13. Sophomore Jacob Pelletier (Augusta, Maine) led the way for the Monks with his 27:15 effort, ranking in the top 25 for the state placing 23rd overall.

The women rounded out the meet placing tenth with 281 points as they toured the 6k course. Sophomore Alexia Young (Rochester, N.H.) finished as the top runner for the Monks completing the course in 30:28 to set a new 6K personal best.

THE RUNDOWN – MEN:

The Polar Bears of Bowdoin had a showing today with junior Will Goddard and senior Brooks Peters, placing first (25:17) and second (25:22), respectively to guide their team to a State Championship Team win (27 pts). Bates followed behind with three of their seniors (Farrington, Kartsonis, Kering) filling the last three spots in the top 5 individuals. Bates finished with a team score of 37 points.

Colby placed third (87pts) followed by Southern Maine (137pts), Maine-Farmington (143pts), U. of New England (192pts), St. Joseph's (223pts), Maine Maritime (225pts), Husson (267pts), Thomas College (279pts), Maine-Presque Isle (298pts), and Central Maine CC (342pts).

 

FOR THE MONKS:

  • Freshman Jacob Pelletier (Augusta, Maine) finished 23rd (27:15)
  • Junior Ryan Graham (Hopkinton, N.H.) placed 68th (29:08)
  • Freshman Tyler Wright (Chatham, Mass.) was 84th with his 30:59 effort
  • Senior Nick Carmosino (Acton, Mass.) finished 87th (31:14)
  • Freshman Diamond Doe (Pawtucket, R.I.) placed 98th finishing with a 32:27 mark
  • Junior Ethan Shaw (Scarborough, Maine) was 102nd (32:44)
  • Freshman Emislon Zocolo (Lewiston, Maine) finished 108th (34:49)
  • Junior Jobet Tardiff (Windham, Maine) placed 112th (36:03)
  • Freshman Colin Brown (Hardwick, Mass.) was 124th (43:10)

 

THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:

Bates ran away with the team title scoring only 19 points ahead of runner-up Bowdoin with 70 points. Bates' very own Elizabeth Holcombe finished the 6k course in 22:21 to take the individual win followed by teammates Chrissy Aman (22:34) and Isabel May (22:40). Stephanie Chun of Bowdoin placed fourth (22:43) to help the runner-ups.

Colby placed third (75pts) followed by U. of New England (120pts), Husson (132pts), Southern Maine (154pts), Maine-Farmington (197pts), Thomas College (244pts), Maine Maritime (278pts), and St. Joseph's (223pts).

 FOR THE MONKS:

  • Sophomore Alexia Young (Rochester, N.H.) placed 85th (30:28)
  • Freshman Ava Moffett (Livermore Falls, Maine) was 86th (30:30)
  • Junior Terry Cassetta (Sandy Hook, Conn.) finished 92nd (32:16)
  • Freshman Breya Whitman (Auburn, Maine) was 95th (35:00)
  • Freshman Haley Lang (New Gloucester, Maine) was 101st (37:14)
  • Junior Lindy Hyndman (Auburn, Maine) finished 103rd (37:45)
  • Junior Alexia Smith (Scarborough, Maine) placed 104th (37:46)
