Saint Joseph's Drops Two

CAPE CORAL, FL - Saint Joseph's College (5-3) lost to Ursinus College and Eastern Nazarene College today at the Cape Coral Sports Complex.

GAME 1

Ursinus pitcher Mallory Greene recorded 9 strike outs and helped the Bears to a 16-0 victory over the Lady Monks. Mary Reid led the Bears with 3 singles and 3 runs scored.

First year students Lindsey Roth (Saco, ME) and Amanda Melendy (Danville, VT) had their collegiate debuts on the mound for St. Joe's. Senior Darcy Lee (Windham, ME) ripped a triple and senior Helene Liaci (Clifton, NJ) and senior Allyson Ferguson (Sabattus, ME) managed singles but Ursinus (7-2) kept the bases clear for most of the game.

GAME 2

Saint Joe's led for most of the game but failed to prevent a major come back by Eastern Nazarene in the 7th inning, losing 9-8.

The Lady Monks held a commanding 8-2 lead after 6 innings. Liaci notched another home run and a single and Lee went 3 for 4 with 3 singles. Sophomore Tessa Grindle (Brooksville, ME) hit a double and 2 singles while both senior Kahler Dowling (Augusta, ME) and junior Leanne Morton (Gorham, ME) had two singles apiece.

A combination of base hits and untimely errors led to an unfortunate turn of events for St. Joe's in the bottom of the 7th as the Crusaders scored 7 runs for the come from behind victory.
