FORT MYERS, FL - Saint Joseph's (4-1) jumped out to an early lead, scoring 2 runs in the first inning, and went on to defeat Wesleyan 2-1.
Lead-off hitter sophomore Amanda Roy (Winslow, ME) singled and senior tri-captain Allyson Ferguson (Sabattus, ME) moved her over with a sacrifice bunt. Senior tri-captain Helene Liaci (Clifton, NJ) stepped up to the plate with two outs and hammered a 2 run shot out of the park over left field.
Molly Gaebe hit a double in the 7th inning and scored Wesleyan's (0-2) only run of the game on a passed ball. Losing pitcher Karla Hargrove settled down after the first inning and registered 9 strike-outs.
Senior tri-captain Kahler Dowling (Augusta, ME) hit a double and recorded 9 strike-outs in her second victory of the season.
Liaci finished 2 for 3 with a single and a 2 run homer and sophomore Tessa Grindle (Brooksville, ME) had two walks and a single.
