BOSTON, MA - The Saint Joseph's College softball team (18-10, 13-5
GNAC) earned a split in a pair of lopsided games with conference
foe Suffolk University (12-18, 11-9 GNAC) on Thursday, losing the
first game 13-2 and winning the second game 23-2. SO
Christy Wezowicz (Granville, MA)
took the game two decision on the mound with five innings of
five-hit ball to improve her season record to 7-6. JR
Alysn Ludwig (Waldoboro, ME) hit
a three-run home run in game two and FY Cat
DeSimone (Waterboro, ME) tallied 6 hits, 3 runs
and 2 RBI's to lead a Lady Monks offense that notched 31 hits in
the two-game set.
GAME ONE
The host Rams (12-18, 11-9 Great Northeast) plated five runs in
each of the first two innings of the opening contest, as a two-run
single by junior Rebecca Schalit (Miami, Fla.) highlighted the
first frame and O'Donnell's two-run double capped the second
inning. Suffolk iced its triumph with three more tallies in the
fourth on O'Donnell third RBI of the game to go with a two-run
triple by junior Marie Trainor (Winthrop, Mass.), as Ferriera,
Schalit, O'Donnell and freshman Monica Cioffi (East Boston, Mass.)
each had two hits in the first game for the hosts in support of
senior Jenna Mourey (Rochester, N.Y.), who scattered eight hits and
struck out a pair to earn his sixth win of the season.
Freshman Ellen Neff (Chester,
Vt.) drove in both runs with RBI singles in the opening setback for
Saint Joseph's (18-10, 13-5 Great Northeast), who also received two
hits each from sophomore Jillian
Kimball (Albany Township, Maine) and freshman
Cat DeSimone (Waterboro, Maine).
Freshman Kiera Walsh (Benton,
Maine) allowed six earned runs and struck out three in going the
route in the first contest for the Monks.

GAME TWO
Saint Joseph's raced out to a 6-0 first inning lead in the nightcap
and added seven more in the third, highlighted by a three-run homer
off the bat of junior Alysn
Ludwig (Waldoboro, Maine) and a three-run triple
by senior Megan Farrell
(Abington, Mass.), and the Monks iced their triumph with eight runs
in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
DeSimone collected four of Saint Joseph's 23 hits
in the second contest, as the Monks received three hits and three
RBI each from Kimball and Farrell
as well as two hits off the bats of Ludwig, sophomores
Liddy Van der Linden (Worcester, Mass.) and
Anna Willis (Gorham, Maine) as
well as freshmen Sarah Gordon
(Hallowell, Maine), Renee Leach
(Shapleigh, Maine) and Natasha
Howard (Farmington, Maine). Sophomore
Christy Wezowicz (Granville,
Mass.) scattered five hits and struck out three in going the
distance for Saint Joseph's to pick up her seventh victory of the
spring.
Junior Kellie Hurlock (East Lyme, Conn.) belted her second home run
of the season in the setback for Suffolk, which also received an
RBI single from Trainor. Mourey suffered the setback in three-plus
innings of work for the Rams.

p.m.
