National Girls & Women in Sports Day - Megan Eagleston
NATIONAL GIRLS & WOMEN IN SPORTS DAY:

"February 3, 2021, marks the 35th Annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD). Every year, this celebration inspires girls and women to play and be active, to realize their full power. This year, with the COVID-19 pandemic, we recognize the importance of staying mentally and physically healthy during challenging times. Whether virtual or other, we invite you to safely celebrate NGWSD in your community and to join the Women's Sports Foundation as we Lead Her Forward in 2021." -www.womenssportsfoundation.org

Since we are unable to visit local schools or host a free sports clinic on campus this year, we hope to inspire young female athletes by sharing the stories of our current student-athletes. We posed the same five questions to members of our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and will feature their answers and photos every day during NGWSD week.

When did you realize you had a passion for your sport?

I think I realized my passion for softball the summer going into my freshman year of high school. When I joined my tournament team. This team that I was on was a family and made going to practice and playing all summer worth it. Before I used to play just because I loved it and because my dad wanted me too but, once I met this team they gave me that final aspect of fun. Which to me creates the passion.
At what age did you start playing sports/your sport?

I started playing softball in the 2nd grade, so around 8. Before that I was playing tee-ball.
Did someone inspire you?

My Dad
Who is your biggest fan?
I think both of my parents are my biggest fans. My mom brought me to every tournament game possible throughout middle school and high school. While my dad gave me all the opportunities available to continue playing. My dad coached me for the beginning of my softball career. He taught me how to throw, catch, and to be the best overall player I can be on and off the field. My dad taught me the more serious side to softball, where my mom brought the fun. Both of my parents worked so hard for me and my sister to have all the opportunities we have had. They'll always be me and my sister's biggest supporters and fans on and off the softball field.
Why do you play?

I play because I enjoy the team aspect and the sense of family it brings. I also play for my dad. He spent so much time teaching me everything I know. It's our way of spending time together. Lastly, I play because I love the sport and enjoy doing it.
