BRUNSWICK, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (15-16) toppled Bowdoin College (14-17), 8-0 in six innings, in a non-conference softball game on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Monks kicked off the game with two runs on three hits in the top of the first when senior catcher Bailey Rassol (Rehoboth, Mass.) roped a two-run double to left field.
The visitors claimed a 4-0 lead in the third, when Olivia Howe (Arundel, Maine) singled and advanced on an error – which allowed freshman Rebecca Fleming (Belmont, N.H.) score – and later raced home on a Lydia Goodnough (Kennebunkport, Maine) base hit.
Goodnough helped the Royal Blue grab a 7-0 lead in the fifth when she doubled home a pair and scored when the next batter, sophomore left fielder Alexis Downs (Auburn, Maine), singled to center. Goodnough lifted the Monks to the mercy-rule advantage in the sixth when she plated Laurel Clace (Keene, N.H.) with a single up the middle.

- Junior starter Sydney Hatch (Newburgh, Maine) earned the victory after allowing two hits with a strikeout over two innings; Emma Hodgkins, Meredith Pence (Remington, Va.), and Emily Eagleston (Reading, Mass.) combined to toss five innings of relief while yielding five hits and three walks and fanning one batter
- Bowdoin starter Shea Sullivan took the loss after allowing seven runs (six earned) on 11 hits and three walks with two punch-outs in five frames; Kiera Dent gave up a run on two hits in an inning of work
