NEWRY, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College alpine ski teams competed in a Reynolds Division giant slalom race at Sunday River on Saturday. The SJC women picked up their first victory of the season while the Monks' men posted a second-place finish.
THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:
Saint Joseph's edged UMaine-Farmington, which notched 11 points and a 5:03.70 total time, by the slimmest of margins as the Monks tallied 10 points and a 5:02.38 composite time after placing three runners in the top five. UMaine-Orono (52 pts), Bowdoin (55 pts), New England College (65 pts), and Bates (114) also raced in today's giant slalom event.
Individually, UMF's Elanore Robb earned her second victory of the young season with a 1:37.47 performance, just barely beating SJC junior Maddie Zordan (New Hartford, Conn.) who placed second with a 1:37.80 effort.
FOR THE MONKS:
- Zordan picked up a podium finish and placed second with a 1:37.80 (47.52, 50.28) time
- Senior Courtney Pingree (Marblehead, Mass.) also podiumed and finished third with a 1:40.13 (49.50, 40.63) effort
- Senior Maeghan Perkins (Turner, Maine) finished sixth with a 1:44.45 (51.96, 52.49) performance
- Junior Lillian Souweine (Bangor, Maine) was ninth (1:47.62, 54.01 / 53.61)
- Freshman Hannah Golden (Concord, N.H.) placed 11th (1:48.17, 53.99 / 54.18)
- Freshman Meghan Cyr (Hampden, Maine) finished 12th (1:48.25, 53.50 / 54.75)
- Sophomore Sienna Mack (Lincoln, N.H.) was 13th (1:48.29, 53.83 / 54.46)
- Freshman Lily Anctil (Greene, Maine) placed 16th (1:50.65, 54.92 / 55.73)
- Senior Erica Irvin (Windham, N.H.) did not finish the first run and placed 14th with a 54.83 time on the second stint
THE RUNDOWN – MEN:
UMaine-Farmington placed the top three finishers, including event winner Jacob Roy (1:28.47), to register the minimum six points with a 4:30.02 time and top Saint Joseph's, which finished second with 17 points and a 4:40.88 composite time.
UMaine-Orono (39 pts), Bowdoin (51 pts), New England College (90 pts), and Bates (99 pts) also raced in the giant slalom today.
FOR THE MONKS:
- Senior Caleb Groton (Goffstown, N.H.) finished fourth with a 1:33.00 (45.83, 47.17) effort
- Junior Jacob Morris (Woodstock, N.H.) was fifth with a 1:33.11 (46.51 / 46.60) time
- Sophomore Jack Price (Franconia, N.H.) placed eighth (1:34.77, 46.27 / 48.50)
- Freshman Sam Plummer (Raymond, Maine) was 18th (1:42.49, 50.80 / 51.69)
- Sophomore Jacob Gilmore (Naples, Maine) finished 27th (2:05.54, 1:00.99 / 1:04.55)
- Senior Liam Strobeck (Charlotte, Vt.) and sophomores Logan Davis (Naples, Maine) and Colin Rathbone (Groton, Mass.) all placed in the top eight on the first run but none of the trifecta finished the second run
