National Girls & Women in Sports Day - Jordan Jabar
NATIONAL GIRLS & WOMEN IN SPORTS DAY

"February 3, 2021, marks the 35th Annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD). Every year, this celebration inspires girls and women to play and be active, to realize their full power. This year, with the COVID-19 pandemic, we recognize the importance of staying mentally and physically healthy during challenging times. Whether virtual or other, we invite you to safely celebrate NGWSD in your community and to join the Women's Sports Foundation as we Lead Her Forward in 2021." -www.womenssportsfoundation.org

Since we are unable to visit local schools or host a free sports clinic on campus this year, we hope to inspire young female athletes by sharing the stories of our current student-athletes. We posed the same five questions to members of our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and will feature their answers and photos every day during NGWSD week.

When did you realize you had a passion for your sport?

I always played sports year round since I was little, but it wasn't until my 8th grade year that I realized I wanted to play basketball in college. After this I really started to put time, energy, and focus into the sport, and this is when I really realized how much I loved it.
At what age did you start playing sports/your sport?

3 years old.
Did someone inspire you?

My dad was always the one who was in the gym putting in time with me. He's always helped me realize my full potential and pushed me to be a better basketball player. From being the coach of my teams to spending nights in the gym with me, he's always been there every step of the way.
Who is your biggest fan?

Between my parents and my grandparents, it's very hard to choose just one of them. All of them have been at most, if not all, of my games, both home and away. They are the ones I can always hear in the stands, and have been there for my strongest and weakest moments in sports, always with the biggest hugs and smiles after games. From coaching me, traveling to my games, giving me encouragement, and so so much more, there's no way I could have become the athlete I am without all of them.
Why do you play?

I play because of the excitement it gives me. In sports there's always a new goal you can reach and something new to work on. Being a part of a team is so rewarding and being able to put energy into something that I have loved since I was little, has brought me so much happiness.
