Neile (Joler) Nelson '95 to be Inducted into Maine Basketball Hall of Fame

STANDISH, Maine – Former Saint Joseph's College women's basketball standout Neile (Joler) Nelson '95 will be inducted into the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame this fall. She is part of a 2022 class that includes 14 inductees, seven "Legends of the Game" and a legendary high school team.

They will be honored Aug. 28 at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. Tickets will go on sale in May on the hall of fame's website.

A member of the SJC Athletic department's inaugural hall of fame class in 2000, Joler was a guard for the women's basketball team in the early 1990's and played a major role for the Monks during one of the program's most successful eras. An incredibly consistent player, Joler scored 814 career points with 279 rebounds, 313 assists and 143 steals in 115 games. At the time of her SJC Hall of Fame induction in 2000, she ranked as the Monks' all-time leader in three pointers made (178) and attempted (557).

During her time on the hardwood at St. Joe's, Joler helped the basketball program capture a pair of Western Maine Athletic Conference (WMAC) Championships and three berths into the NAIA National Tournament. The Monks posted a four-year record of 92-24 (.793) with a 27-6 (.818) mark in WMAC play with Joler on the court.

A two-sport star who was also a force on the soccer pitch, Joler claimed three All-Northeast, three All-State, and four All-Conference honors while tallying 35 goals and 17 assists for 87 total points during her career. Joler led the soccer team to WMAC titles in 1991 and 1992.

A stellar student, Joler earned Scholar-Athlete All-America accolades her junior and senior years and is one of just two athletes in Saint Joseph's College history to collect Maine NCAA Woman of the Year honors. In 1991, she was a McDonald's Senior All-Star while at Fort Kent High School.
