STANDISH, Maine - The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced the 2022 WBCA Victory Club honorees last week and Saint Joseph's College Head Coach Mike McDevitt '83 is one of 30 coaches from NCAA and NAIA institutions to be recognized
The WBCA Victory Club honor is bestowed annually on each WBCA-member head coach who achieves a milestone of 200, 300, 400, 500 or more career victories during the current season on the level of competition at which they currently coach. Victories recorded at differing levels of competition (such as scholastic and collegiate) cannot be combined.
One of just two NCAA DIII Women's Basketball coaches to reach the 600-victory mark during the 2021-22 season, McDevitt guided the Monks to a 22-5 (.815) overall record, including a 14-2 (.875) mark in GNAC play, en route to claiming the #3 seed in the GNAC Tournament last winter.
McDevitt hit the 600-win milestone with an 89-28 win over Lasell University in the Monks' regular-season finale on Saturday, February 19th in Standish. Having just completed his 30th season (29 at SJC), McDevitt owns a 602-210 (.743) career record and is one of just 12 active coaches – and the 24th NCAA DIII Women's Basketball skipper overall - to reach the landmark.
Through the 2021-22 season, McDevitt has the 14th-highest career winning percentage and 12th-most victories among active NCAA DIII Women's Basketball head coaches. Only two New England area coaches have more wins while just three have higher winning percentages. He is one of just 10 coaches in the history of DIII women's basketball to register twenty 20-win seasons.
