Bobcats Race Past Monks, 16-2

STANDISH, Maine – Bates College (1-0) defeated Saint Joseph's College (1-1), 16-2, in a non-conference women's lacrosse contest at the SJC Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats opened play with four-consecutive goals, including a pair from junior midfielder Jordyn Tveter (Topsfield, Mass.), before junior attack Lydia Dexter (Oakland, Maine) scored to make it a 4-1 game with 17:05 remaining in the first half.

Bates responded with eight unanswered tallies and carried a 12-1 cushion into intermission. The visitors extended their lead to 15-1 before freshman midfielder Cailyn Wesley (Peabody, Mass.) scored on a free-position attempt with 3:48 left to play.

Saint Joseph's junior goalkeeper Madelyn Nelson (Casco, Maine) made 11 saves in the setback while Bates starter Cammie Lavoie, who picked up the win, made four saves in the first half while Rachael Deptula turned away four shots in the second stanza.

A total of 10 different players scored for Bates, as Tveter led the offensive attack with three goals and an assist and Kathryn Grennon (Cape Elizabeth, Maine), Margaret Smith (Wilton, Conn.), Lila Hutchins (Westfield, N.J.), and Kate Loughlin (Portsmouth, N.H.) netted two goals apiece in the Bobcats' season-opener.

For the Monks, freshman Megan Mourmouras (Biddeford, Maine) notched four craw controls, first-year Carson Battaglia (Gorham, Maine) picked up three draw controls, and freshman Heather Rohr (Merrimack, N.H.) tallied three ground balls and a pair of draw controls.

Saint Joseph's will host Becker College next Sunday at 2:00 PM.
