Saint Joseph’s Topples Becker, 17-5

STANDISH, Maine – Junior Lydia Dexter (Oakland, Maine) tallied five goals, seven assists and five caused turnovers to help lift Saint Joseph's College (2-1) past Becker College (1-2), 17-5, in a non-conference women's lacrosse contest at the SJC Athletics Complex on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Enduring cold, driving rain and gusty winds, the Monks kicked off the contest with three goals in the first four minutes of play, as freshman Cailyn Wesley (Peabody, Mass.) scored in between a pair of Dexter tallies to provide the hosts with an early 3-0 advantage.

The Hawks scored four of the game's following five goals, including a pair of man-down markers, to make it a 5-4 game with 13:19 left in the first half.

Seven minutes of scoreless play followed, as neither team had much luck sustaining offensive pressure with turnovers being a common theme. Dexter broke the scoreless stretch at the 6:19 mark with her third tally of the game and the Monks closed out the half with three unanswered goals to secure a 9-4 cushion at intermission.

Saint Joseph's continued to fill up the scoresheet in the second half, as the Monks opened the second stanza with five-consecutive strikes and held a 14-4 lead after freshman Carson Battaglia (Gorham, Maine) hit pay dirt at the 19:37 mark.

Junior attack Claire Conway (Billerica, Mass.) broke the Hawks' scoring drought with a tally at the 16:31 mark, but St. Joe's finished the contest on a 3-0 run to account for the 17-5 final.
