SJC Women’s Soccer Team to Host GNAC Quarterfinal

STANDISH, ME - The Saint Joseph's College women's soccer team (12-4-1, 9-2-1 GNAC), piloted by fifth-year Head Coach Michael Bolanz ‘00, has secured the #2 seed in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference playoffs for the second time in as many years in the league. The Lady Monks, currently on a nine-game unbeaten streak, will host #7 Johnson & Wales University (9-8-2, 6-4-2) on Sunday, November 2nd at 12:00 PM at Westerlea Way Field on the campus of Saint Joseph's.

St. Joe's is led offensively this season by the trio of Mikayla Call ‘11 (Portland, ME/McAuley), Jessica Needham ‘11 (E. Bridgewater, MA) and co-captain Katie Jordan ‘09 (Sandwich, MA). The three have combined to score 31 goals and 79 points.

Through 17 games this season, Call leads the Royal Blue with 14 goals and 32 points and has accumulated numbers that rank in the top six in the GNAC in five offensive categories. The sophomore standout, a 2007 GNAC All-Conference First Team honoree, was named as the Conference Player of the Week on October 6th, 2008. Her 68 career points ranks her as the eighth-highest scorer in program history.

Needham ranks second on the team in points (24) and game-winning goals (3) and serves as the squad's playmaker with eight assists. The sophomore was named to the GNAC All-Conference Second Team in 2007.

Jordan has enjoyed a remarkable career in a Royal Blue uniform, with 31 goals, 11 assists and 73 points in 69 games. Her goals and points total rank sixth and seventh, respectively, in the SJC women's soccer career record book. This season, Jordan leads the team in game-winning goals (4), is second in goals (9) and third in points (23). She was a GNAC Second Team All-Conference honoree in 2007.

Bolanz, who is set to be the first men's soccer player inducted into the Saint Joseph's College Athletics Hall of Fame on November 8th, broke the Lady Monks coaching victories mark on October 5th with a 4-2 triumph over Maine Maritime Academy. Bolanz holds a 62-28-5 record as the leader of the SJC women's program.

Saint Joseph's will travel to Gorham, ME on Wednesday to play Southern Maine at 3:00 PM in the team's regular season finale before focusing on the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales. The Lady Monks and Wildcats played to a 3-3 tie on October 11th in East Providence, RI.
