STANDISH, ME - Saint Joseph's College (2-2, 2-0 GNAC) defeated
GNAC rival Mount Ida College (2-2-1, 1-1 GNAC) on Wednesday
afternoon behind a pair of goals from sophomore
Mikayla Call (Portland,
ME/McAuley HS) and a defensive effort that allowed the Mustangs
only two shots on net. Senior Lauren
Harrigan (Caribou, ME) netted her first goal of
the season while junior goalkeeper Katye
Mayo (Fairfield, ME) notched her second
consecutive shutout in the conference victory.
The Lady Monks opened the game scoring in the 13th minute when
Call took a pass from Brianna
Jordan '10 (Scarborough, ME) and booted it past
Mustangs keeper Meghan Begins '10 (Jericho, VT).
St. Joe's extended the lead to two goals at the 37:02 mark after
senior Lauren Harrigan (Caribou,
ME) scored off a rebound in front of the net. The score stood at
2-0, Lady Monks, going into the break.
After nearly 40 minutes of scoreless action, Call
found the back of the net for her second tally of the match, third
of the season, off an excellent pass from senior
Katie Jordan (Sandwich, MA) to
cap the game scoring and put her team up 3-0.
Saint Joseph's will travel to Northfield, VT on Saturday, September
20th to play against GNAC foe Norwich University in a 1:00 PM
match. Mount Ida will face off against Pine Manor College in GNAC
action on Saturday at 1:00 PM in Chestnut Hill, MA.
