Bowdoin Surges Past St. Joe’s, 4-1

STANDISH, Maine – Bowdoin College (4-2-0) scored four unanswered second-half goals to defeat Saint Joseph's College (3-4-0), 4-1, in a non-conference women's soccer contest at the SJC Athletics Complex on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Polar Bears applied most of the offensive pressure early, but it was the Monks who struck first when freshman Shauna Clark scored off a Madison Michaud (Presque Isle, Maine) pass in the 31st minute. Michaud scooped up a misplayed ball just outside the box and dished to Clark, who ripped a shot to the left side of the net.

The 1-0 lead held true until the 58th minute, when the Polar Bears opened a string of four-consecutive tallies with a Lo Hoglin (Park City, Utah) goal. SJC senior keeper Adia Grogan (Kennebunk, Maine) made the initial save on a point-blank attempt, but Hoglin was there for the rebound and game-tying goal.

Greta Farkas netted the game-winning goal at the 66:20 mark while senior Julia Adelmann (Natick, Mass.) and junior Isa Quintana (Gainesville, Fla.) wrapped up the scoring with goals in the 73rd and 76th minutes, respectively.

TEAM STATS:

Bowdoin outshot the Monks by a 46-6 margin, including a 27-5 lead in shots on goal, with a 3-0 edge in corner kicks.

THE KEEPERS:

Grogan made a career-high 23 saves, including a handful of acrobatic stops, while Bowdoin keepers Penny Rocchio and Alex Arndt split the game in goal and recorded a pair of saves apiece on the afternoon.
