Monks Finish Regular Season with 2-0 Win Over Chargers

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (11-7-0, 10-3-0 GNAC) blanked Colby-Sawyer College (4-10-1, 4-8-1 GNAC), 2-0, in what was the 2021 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) finale for both teams at the SJC Athletics Complex on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks had numerous scoring chances but did not find the back of the net until the 39:47 mark, when sophomore Aaliyah Wilson-Falcone (Winthrop, Maine) worked her way through several defenders before delivering a shot to the lower left corner from the right side of the box.

The slim margin remained until the 81st minute, when first-year Alicen Burnham (Monmouth, Maine) scored her seventh goal of the season off a rebound near the crease.

PLAYOFF IMPLICATIONS:

With the win, Saint Joseph's has locked up the #3 seed in the GNAC Tournament, which begins with a quarterfinal round on Saturday. The Monks will host a quarterfinal contest, opponent TBD, at 2:00 PM.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (27-3), shots on goal (14-3), and corner kicks (5-0) in the victory.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC senior Adia Grogan (Kennebunk, Maine) made three saves in the shutout performance while Colby-Sawyer netminder Alexis Lebreton turned away 12 shots in a losing effort.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 3-2 all-time versus Colby-Sawyer College and has now defeated the Chargers in three-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2018 campaign.
