Semifinal Preview: #3 Saint Joseph's @ #2 Lasell

STANDISH, Maine – Second-seeded Lasell University (12-4-0, 11-2-0 GNAC) will host #3 Saint Joseph's College (12-7-0, 10-3-0 GNAC) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Soccer Tournament Semifinal game at 2:30 PM this afternoon.

HOW THEY GOT HERE:

Both teams advanced to the semifinal round after winning quarterfinal contests on Saturday. The Monks blanked #6 Elms College, 2-0, at the SJC Athletics Complex while the Lasers slipped past #7 Regis College, 1-0 in a match played on the turf at Brandeis.

In the win over Elms, the Monks were held scoreless until the 57th minute when senior Kayley Mattos (Mahopac, N.Y.) hit pay dirt off a nice pass from freshman Alicen Burnham (Monmouth, Maine). St. Joe's managed to tack on an insurance goal at the 86:59 mark, when Burnham netted her seventh goal of the year. Sophomore Aaliyah Wilson-Falcone (Winthrop, Maine) set up the play with slick lead pass and was credited with the assist.

The Lasers held a 23-5 shots advantage in the win over Regis, but could not convert an attempt until the 82nd minute when freshman Priscilla Martinelli (Plymouth, Mass.) lofted a shot over the Pride keeper into the far post.
