Lasell Holds Off St. Joe’s, 4-3

NEWTON, Mass. – Lasell University (7-4-1, 7-0-1 GNAC) held off Saint Joseph's College (5-7-0, 5-3-0 GNAC), 4-3, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer match on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The conference counterparts swapped scores in the first half, as the Lasers received goals from Camdyn LaMarre and Bobbi O'Guin in the sixth and 37th minutes, respectively, while junior Aaliyah Wilson-Falcone (Winthrop, Maine) and senior Keelin Sweeney (Hollis, Maine) hit pay dirt in the 35th and 45th minutes as the teams headed into intermission deadlocked at 2-2.

Lasell managed to take the lead for good by netting a pair of goals in a matter of two minutes early in the second stanza, as Michelina D'Agostino and LaMarre scored to make it a 4-2 game with 35:10 remaining.

SJC freshman Kate Russell (Kennebunk, Maine) potted her second goal of the season off a Shauna Clark (Oakland, Maine) pass in the 84th minute to cut the Lasell lead to 4-3. Despite having several chances in the closing minutes, the Monks were unable to convert in the one-goal setback.

TEAM STATS:

The Lasers held the lead in shots (19-12), shots on goal (12-8), and corner kicks (4-2) in the triumph.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC junior Carly Downey (Yarmouth, Maine) made eight saves in the loss while Lasell netminder Kyli Swann posted five stops on the afternoon.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the result Saint Joseph's falls to 6-14-2 in the history of the series with Lasell University.
