Monks Tip Chargers in Regular Season Finale, 2-1

NEW LONDON, N.H. – Saint Joseph's College (9-8-1, 9-3-1 GNAC) edged Colby-Sawyer College (7-9-4, 5-5-3 GNAC), 2-1, in what was the regular season finale for both teams in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon.

PLAYOFF IMPLICATIONS:

Saint Joseph's has secured the #4 seed and will host fifth-seeded Regis College in a GNAC quarterfinal on Saturday at 2:00 PM. Colby-Sawyer is the #7 seed and will play at #2 Lasell University in other first-round action on Saturday at 12:00 PM.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Senior forward Madison Michaud (Presque Isle, Maine) provided the Monks with a 1-0 lead when she potted her 11th goal of the season off a Sydney Gallop (Hermon, Maine) pass in the 30th minute. Junior Aaliyah Wilson-Falcone (Winthrop, Maine) scored what proved to be the game-winner with her ninth marker of the year in the 66th minute.

Hannah Marquis scored off a Kara Keiper pass at the 75:37 mark to close out the scoring ledger.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the edge in shots (17-16) and shots on goal (9-8) while both teams were awarded three corner kicks on the afternoon.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC junior Carly Downey (Yarmouth, Maine) and Colby-Sawyer goalie Alexis Lebreton both made seven stops in the conference contest.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Saint Joseph's is now 4-2-0 all-time versus Colby-Sawyer College and has defeated the Chargers in four-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2018 season.
