Monks and Cadets Play to 1-1 Deadlock

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Saint Joseph's College (2-4-2, 2-2-2 GNAC) and Norwich University (1-5-1, 0-4-1 GNAC) played to a 1-1 tie in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer action on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The scoreless stalemate was broken in the 54th minute when Sam Penacho hit pay dirt on a shot from about 30 yards out off Celine Juneau and Ameya Moncrieffe passes. The Monks managed to salvage the tie when senior Tatum Hancock (Damariscotta, Maine) scored her third goal of the year with a shot that clanged off the crossbar and into the net at the 84:53 mark. Senior Darcy Wright (Salem, N.H.) and freshman Jordan Huntley (Stafford Springs, Conn.) were credited with assists on the game-tying tally.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (15-6), shots on goal (9-4), and corner kicks (12-2) in the deadlock.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC senior goalie Carly Downey (Yarmouth, Maine) made three saves while Norwich starter Kayla Dawson turned away eight shots on the evening.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the result Saint Joseph's is now 11-2-4 all-time versus Norwich University. Prior to this evening, the Monks had defeated the Cadets in five consecutive meetings.

NEXT!

Saint Joseph's will host Elms College on Tuesday in a GNAC matchup that's slated to start at 5:00 PM.
