SJC Women’s Swim Team Garners GNAC Institutional Sportsmanship Award

STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) has announced this season's women's swimming honors and Saint Joseph's College has earned, by a vote of conference coaches, the 2016 Institutional Sportsmanship Award.

Led by first-year Head Coach Margaret Howe, Saint Joseph's finished as the 2015 GNAC Championship Runner-up with 401 team points in the event, which was held at Simmons College in Boston on December 5th and 6th.

Despite having a small roster, the Monks made the most of their eight individuals, who combined to compete in 27 finals events and four relay races with 25 top-10 finishes, including eight top-five performances, en route to securing the program's second runner-up finish in nine NCAA varsity seasons.

Members of this year's team included seniors Annie Fougere (Warner, N.H.), Brooke Huberdeau (North Andover, Mass.), and Allie Krasco (Melrose, Mass.), juniors Brittany Dalphonse (Coventry, R.I.), Lauren Halvorsen (South Portland, Maine), and Lauren Prue (Glenburn, Maine), sophomore Leia Berube (Brewer, Maine), and freshman Julia Rowlett (Saco, Maine).

Following the completion of each season, the GNAC presents sportsmanship awards to one program in each of its 17 sponsored sports. Head coaches select, by vote, the institution that best represents the tenets of sportsmanship, which - along with community and integrity - is one of the major focal points of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.

Founded in 1995, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) is an NCAA Division III association made up of 12 member institutions and over 3,000 student-athletes across the New England region. Each year, the GNAC sponsors and administers 17 championships, while balancing academic integrity, athletic opportunities and community involvement.
