Monks Compete at Maine State Championship

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College Men's and Women's Track teams made their way over to the new state of the art Harold Alfond Rec Center, home of the Colby College Chargers, for the Maine State Championships. Out of the eight-team contest, Bates topped the men's field with 240.5 points followed by Bowdoin with 180.5 points. For the women Colby took charge with the 200.5 point finish just edging Bates with a 197 runner up finish. 

Samantha VanDeMoere highlighted the meet with her third-place finish in the 800 Meter Run (2:27.60) signing her ticket to the NCAA DIII New England Championship. For the men's Individuals, James Benson finished sixth in the Long Jump (6.24m) scoring three points for the Monks and Cameron Rice placed eighth in the 800 Meter Run (2:30.94) collecting a point.

THE RUNDOWN – MEN:

  • Senior James Benson (Gorham, Maine) placed sixth in the Long Jump with a 6.24m effort and 15th in the 60 Meter Dash (7.41)
  • Senior Cameron Rice (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) placed eighth in the 800 Meter Run clocking in at 2:30.94
  • Senior Troy Hendricks (Hiram, Maine) placed 11th in the 1000 Meter Run (2:47.30)
  • Freshman Rookie Ryan Graham (Hopkinton, N.H.) placed 12th in the 600 Meter Run for a personal best (1:33.09)

The men placed eighth with 6 points

THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:

  • Senior Samantha VanDeMoere (Thornton, N.H.) placed third in the 800 Meter Run (2:27.60) and gained a pair of 24th finishes in the Long Jump (3.66m) and 200 Meter Dash (31.49)
  • Junior Caitlin Kendrick (Richmond, Maine) finished eighth in the 3000 Meter run (12:22.61) and 17th in the Mile (6:03.67)
  • Senior Emma Allen (Jefferson, Maine) placed nineth in the 3000 Meter Run (12:36.36) and 18th in the Mile (6:05.33)
  • Senior Carly Jordan (Turner, Maine) cruised in for the nineth place finish in the 1000 Meter Run (3:39.53)
  • Freshman Lindy Hyndman (Auburn, Maine) placed 11th in the 60 Meter Dash (8.73) and 26th in the 200-Meter Dash (32.12)
  • Junior Piper Wetherby (Berwick, Maine) was 11th in the in the Weight Throw (9.42m) and 13th in the Shot Put (8.30m)

The Women placed seventh with 12.5 points.
