Seven Team Records Fall in 2022-23 Indoor Opener

GORHAM, MAINE – The Saint Joseph's College of Maine Indoor Track and Field teams kicked off their season at the home of the University of Southern Maine Huskies. Three colligate teams were in attendance on the men's side and four for the women. For the men, Southern Maine came out on top racking up 228 points, Franklin Pierce just 41 points behind for second, and the Monks closed with a third-place finish (61 points). On the women's side, Southern Maine took first with 209 points winning by 65 points over Franklin Pierce's 144-point showing. The Saint Joe's ladies also finished third with 72 points ahead of University Maine-Augusta (4 points).

Seven program records fell yesterday from the efforts of Abdirizak Abukar (200 Meter Dash), Ryan Farr (300 Meter Dash), Brooklyn Goff (High Jump), Kate Luiz (300 Meter Dash), Kimberly Moulton (Weight Throw), Aaliyah Wilson-Falcone (Triple Jump), and the Men's Sprint Medley Relay. 

THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:

  • Junior Aaliyah WilsonFalcone (Winthrop, Maine) in her first collegiate debut placed first in the Triple Jump (10.68m) which is also good enough to send her to the New England Championships. WilsonFalcone also placed fourth in the 55 Hurdles (9.66) and sixth in the shot put (9.79m) 
  • Junior Brooklyn Goff (Biddeford, Maine) placed first in the High Jump (1.49m) and third in the 55H
  • Freshman Alexia Young (Rochester, N.H.) took first overall in the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 29.52 and collected fifth in the Triple Jump (8.52m)
  • Freshman Paige Sawyer (Ellsworth, Maine) placed second in the 55 hurdles with a time of 9.19.
  • Abby O'Brien (Gorham, Maine) jumped for third in Long Jump with a 4.24 mark. O'Brien also threw for a sixth-place effort in the Weight Throw setting a new personal best (10.29m) and closed the day off with a ninth-place finish in the Shot Put (8.21m)
  • Kimberly Moulton (Franklin, Mass.) placed fourth in the Weight Throw for a new program record (12.28m) and seventh in the Shot Put with a 9.16m mark.
  • Sophomore Lindy Hyndman (Auburn, Maine) placed fourth in the 55 Meter Dash with a 7.75 time for a new personal best.
  • Sophomore Hannah Vacco (Pembroke, N.H.) placed fourth in the Mile (7:59.86)
  • Sophomore Kate Luiz (Pittston, Maine) set the program record for the 300 with a fifth-place time of 53.74 
  • Freshman MacKenzie Howard (Kennebunk, Maine) placed ninth in the Weight Throw (5.27m) and 16th in the Shot Put (7.12m)
  • Sophomore Sarah Joe (Londonderry, N.H.) placed tenth in the Weight Throw and finished 17th in the Shot Put with a mark of 6.20m

THE RUNDOWN – MEN:

  • Freshman Abdirizak Abukar (Lewiston, Maine) placed first in the 200 Meter Dash crushing a 10-year-old school record with a time of 22.89. This time writes his ticket to the New England Championship as well. Abukar also placed third in the 55 Meter Dash with a time of 6.75
  • Sophomore Tyler Ricker (Montpelier, Vt.) was runner-up in the 500 Meter Dash clocking in at 1:11.71, and also snagged a fifth-place finish in the Long Jump (11.54m)
  • Freshman Colin Monsen (York, Maine) cruised in for a second-place finish in the 55 Meter Hurdles (9.65), a third-place finish in the Triple Jump with a jump of 11.64m and ninth in the Long Jump (5.17m)
  • Junior Ryan Farr (Gorham, Maine) placed fourth in the 300 Meter Dash setting a new program record with his 36.31 effort.
  • Senior Devin Abbott (Berwick, Maine) gathered a fourth-place finish with a new personal best in the 5,000 Meter Run clocking in at 16:38.52
  • Grad Student Troy Hendricks (Hiram, Maine) followed in behind Abbott for fifth with a 16:56.78 effort
  • Freshman Brayden Grant (Rochester, N.H) placed sixth in the 500 Meter dash with a 1:22 effort
  • Sophomore Ethan Shaw (Scarborough, Maine) paced for a 5:45.77 mile placing seventh
  • Sophomore Nick Carmosino (Acton, Mass.) collected an eighth-place finish in the 300 Meter Dash with a time of 41.82
  • Freshman Seth Quinney (Northwood, N.H.) threw for a 7.29m mark in the Weight Throw for eighth and launched the Shot Put for a 9.11m mark placing 13th
  • Junior Wesley Hundley (Kennebunk, Maine) followed behind Quinney with a ninth-place effort in the Weight Throw (6.56m) and gathered a 12th-place finish in the Shot Put (9.62m)
  • Abukar, Tardiff, Farr, and Hendricks placed first overall in the Sprint Medley Relay to set a new program record
  • Noah Batoosingh (Scarborough, Maine), Ethan Tardiff (Auburn, Maine), and Jesse Tidd (Portland, Maine) also competed in the USM Meet 1
