Monks finish seventh at State of Maine Championship

­GORHAM, MAINE – Saint Joseph's College Women's Indoor Track and Field traveled to Southern Maine on Saturday for the 2024 Maine State Championships. Out of the eight-team contest, the Bears of Bowdoin successfully protected their team title from last year winning the meet with 234 points. Bates, finished in behind with 157 points. Colby (125.5 points), Southern Maine (115 points), Husson (39 points), Thomas College (21 points), Saint Joe's (19.5 points), and Maine-Farmington (15 points) rounded out the team scores.

 

With 19.5 points the Women's team achieved their highest points scored at a Maine State Championship (0.5 points more than last year's 19 points). Leading the Monks was Senior Brooklyn Goff with a total of 14.5 points, which is the most points scored by a St.Joe's Women's Track and Field Athlete at the Maine State Championships. Goff placed third in the High Jump (1.51m / 4' 11.5"), fourth in the 55-meter Hurdles (8.99), and fifth in the Long Jump (5.16m / 16'11.25") to lead the Monks. Senior Abby O'Brien rounded out the scoring with a monstrous throw in the Weight Throw to shatter her previously held program record (12.62m) with a new mark of 13.63m which punches her ticket to the New England Championships while placing fourth overall.

THE RUNDOWN:

  • Senior Brooklyn Goff placed third in the High Jump (1.51m / 4' 11.5"), fourth in the 55-meter Hurdles (8.99), fifth in the Long Jump (5.16m / 16'11.25"), and 15th in the 55-meter dash. With today's marks, Goff has qualified for the New England Championships in the Hurdles
  • Senior Abby O'Brien placed fourth in the Weight Throw with a mark of 13.63m (44' 8.75"). O'Brien also placed 20th in the Shot Put (7.84m / 25' 8.75")
  • Freshman Ava Smart finished ninth in the 400-meter dash clocking 1:06.33
  • Freshman Audrey Bilodeau placed ninth in the 55-meter Hurdles with a time of 9.70 and finished 17th in the Long Jump (4.43m / 14' 6.5")
  • Freshman Alexis Cowan placed ninth in the Triple Jump (9.23m / 30' 3.5"). Cowan also got a pair of 15th place finishes in the Long Jump (4.64m / 15' 2.75") and 200-meter dash (30.49)
  • Sophomore Alexia Young placed tenth in the 200-meter dash (29.20) and 18th in the Long Jump (4.40m / 14' 5.25")
  • Freshman Ava Moffett finished the day with a pair of tenth place finishes, setting new personal bests in the 1000-meter run (3:49.43) and Mile (6:32.13)
  • Freshman Breya Whitman placed tenth in the High Jump (1.41m / 4' 7.5") and tenth in the Triple Jump (9.04m / 29' 8")

The Monks will take a week off as they prepare for the GNAC Championships at Boston University on February 18th, 2024!
