STANDISH, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy (1-0) defeated Saint Joseph's College (0-2), 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-17) in a non-conference women's volleyball round robin tournament match at the Harold Alfond Center on Friday evening.
University of New England kicked off the six-game tourney with a 3-0 victory over University of Southern Maine.
TEAM STATS:
The Mariners held the lead in kills (27-25), assists (23-22), service aces (8-5), and digs (49-47) while the Monks posted a 6-5 edge in blocks.
LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:
- Senior Olivia Kent (Ellington, Conn.) paced the Royal Blue with five kills and added four digs and a pair of block assists
- Freshman Ava Brownsword (Richmond, Vt.) provided the Monks with an offensive spark by notching three kills in four attempts
- Junior Hanna Holden (Stoughton, Mass. Contributed 11 assists and four digs
- Freshman Maggie Sylvester (Barrington, N.H.) added 13 digs and three kills
- Freshman Sierra Burns (Peyton, Colo.) chipped in with nine digs
LEADERS – MAINE MARITIME:
- Rachel Melampy posted a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs
- Katie Albritton was credited with 17 assists and picked up nine digs
- Brianna Mays tallied four service aces with three total blocks
- Ali O'Neil grabbed nine digs

Saint Joseph's resumes play with a pair of matches tomorrow, as the Monks face University of New England at 10:00 AM and University of Southern Maine at 4:00. Southern Maine takes on Maine Maritime at 12:00 PM and the 2:00 PM match features Maine Maritime and University of New England.
