Monks Defeat Saints, Fall to Bengals in Tri-Match

STANDISH, Maine - The Saint Joseph's College women's volleyball team (5-10, 2-0 GNAC) split a tri-match at the Harold Alfond Center on Saturday. The Monks opened with a 3-2 (25-18, 25-15, 19-25, 23-25, 15-9) victory over GNAC rival Emmanuel College (5-8, 1-3 GNAC) and fell to UMaine-Fort Kent (4-6), 3-1 (25-17, 20-25, 20-25, 21-25), in the closing match. 

SAINT JOSEPH'S 3, EMMANUEL 2:

The Monks improved to 2-0 in conference play by holding off the Saints of Emmanuel College in Saturday's opener. St. Joe's raced out to a 2-0 lead with convincing first and second set wins, but Emmanuel fought back to tie the match. In the deciding set, the Monks broke free from an 8-8 tie with a 7-1 run to claim a 15-9 win and five-set victory.

Sophomore Jordan Ingoldsby (Alton Bay, N.H.) notched four kills and senior Olivia Kent (Ellington, Conn.) posted a pair of service aces during the game-clinching run.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Ingoldsby paced the Monks with 11 kills
  • Freshman Hanna Webster (Alvin, Texas) recorded nine kills with three aces and four digs
  • Freshman Allison McMullen (Jacksonville, Fla.) posted nine kills
  • Freshman Maggie Sylvester (Barrington, N.H.) added eight kills and a solo block
  • Freshman Sierra Burns (Peyton, Colo.) tallied two kills, six aces, five assists, and 12 digs
  • Junior Hanna Holden (Stoughton, Mass.) delivered 20 assists and eight digs
  • Junior Amanda Darby (Shrewsbury, Mass.) chipped in with 17 assists, three aces, and 11 digs
  • Sophomore Sam Holland (Gilmanton, N.H.) boasted five aces with 10 digs

LEADERS – EMMANUEL:

  • Anna Caristi posted 11 kills on 27 attempts with a pair of solo blocks
  • Rachel Coleman notched 21 assists and eight digs
  • Caitlin Tannian tallied four kills, four aces, and seven digs
  • Tatiana Correia led the Saints with 14 digs

UMAINE-FORT KENT 3, SAINT JOSEPH'S 1:

Saint Joseph's opened with a convincing 25-17 first set win but the Bengals, who defeated Emmanuel by a 3-1 score in the middle match, managed to clinch their second win of the day with three-consecutive close victories by a combined total of 14 points.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Kent delivered a team-high 10 kills
  • Webster posted a .471 attack percentage with eight kills in 17 attempts
  • Senior Sarah Quinn (Dover, N.H.) added eight kills and five block assists
  • Holden registered 20 assists, eight digs, two kills, and a pair of digs
  • Burns chipped in with 20 digs and five assists

LEADERS – UMAINE-FORT KENT:

  • Abigail Thompson recorded 11 kills and four block assists
  • Allora Somonton added nine kills
  • Kaylee Neher registered eight kills, three aces, and 13 digs
  • Heather Harness tallied four kills, three aces, and 12 digs
  • Halle Ham posted 15 digs
  • Carla Rodriguez contributed with four kills, 17 assists, and six digs
