Mules Hold Off Monks, 3-1

WATERVILLE, Maine – Colby College (1-0) outlasted several Saint Joseph's College (1-3) rally efforts to defeat the Monks, 3-1 (25-17, 24-26, 25-20, 26-24) in a non-conference women's volleyball match on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

After falling in the first set by a 25-17 score, the Monks rallied from a five-point deficit (21-16) with a 10-3 run, which featured a pair of Maggie Sylvester (Barrington, N.H.) kills and a set-clinching throw down from freshman Heather Darby (Shrewsbury, Mass.).

Colby topped St. Joe's by a 25-20 score in the third match to claim a 2-1 match lead, but the fourth set was hotly contested and not decided until the Mules overcame a late 23-22 shortfall with a 3-1 run to secure the 26-24 set triumph and 3-1 match win.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Sylvester produced a match-high 12 kills with 10 digs
  • Sophomore Hanna Webster (Alvin, Texas) added six kills and five digs
  • Senior Hanna Holden (Stoughton, Mass.) posted a double-double with 15 assists and 10 digs
  • First-year Victoria Briones (El Paso, Texas) added 12 digs and four assists
  • Senior Amanda Darby (Shrewsbury, Mass.) chipped in with 10 assists
  • Freshman Regan Noonan (Standish, Maine) contributed three solo blocks

LEADERS – COLBY:

  • LJ Grant scored 11 kills, 11 digs, and two aces
  • Emma Davis added 10 kills on 26 attempts
  • Sydney Sick put up four kills, 25 assists, and 10 digs
  • Hannah Wylie registered eight kills with a .333 attack percentage
  • Bella Schumacher scooped up 15 digs with four assists and a pair of aces
