Women Finish 29th in ECAC Cross Country Championship

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - Saint Joseph's placed 29th with 871 team points in the ECAC Championships, hosted by Williams College, on Saturday. Katie Murphy '11 (Baileyville, ME) paced the SJC women with a 27:05.2 effort to place 114th overall.

Middlebury won the event with 37 team points and four runners in the top ten. Williams placed second with 50 points and was followed by Amherst (105), Vassar (133) and Coast Guard Academy (177). Thirty-five teams participated in the event.

Johanna Spangler of Vassar collected individual honors with a 22:51.6 time and was followed by a pair of Middlebury trekkers - Sarah Lange (22:55.7) and Steph Moroney (23:11.1). Ariel Williams (23.23.4) from Williams College was fourth and Ivette Mejia (23:30.7) from St. Vincent rounded out the top five. 275 athletes completed the 6K course.

For St. Joe's, Shannon Marden '10 (Dover-Foxcroft, ME) placed 154th with a 28:02.7 performance and Mary Casinghino '10 (Manchester, NH) was right behind her with a 28:04.7 effort. The pair was followed by Claire Cook '10 (Sangerville, ME) (220th, 30:36.5), Laura Mills '13 (Mattapoisett, MA) (228th, 30:51.6) and Ashley Condon '13 (Sumner, ME) (31:02.1).

The Monks will close out the 2009 campaign next Saturday when the team participates in the NCAA DIII Championships in Cumberland, ME. The women's race begins at 11:00 AM.
