Women's Cross Country Finishes Fifth in UMF Invite

FARMINGTON, ME – The SJC women's cross country team finished fifth with 132 team points in the University of Maine at Farmington Invitational 5K earlier today. Freshman Audrey Curry (Perry, Maine) finished 26th with a 26:01 effort to lead the Monks in the seven-team event.

University of New England had five runners in the top eight overall and cruised to victory with 24 points while Husson placed second with 53 points. UMF (92), Maine-Machias (123), Saint Joseph's (132), Maine-Presque Isle (142) and Maine Maritime (180) rounded out the field of competing institutions.

Paige Wiechman of Machias captured individual honors with a 21:38 pace, just eight seconds ahead of Nor'easters freshman Colleen Ahern. Annelise Donahue (21:51, UNE), Alecia Palmer (21:51, HUS) and Jess Partlow (22:21, UNE) finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

For the Monks, Laura Mills '13 (Mattapoisett, Mass.) placed 28th (26:09), Macy Pagurko '14 (Augusta, Maine) was 37th (27:18) and Emily O'Connor '15 (Scarborough, Maine) ran to a 52nd place (28:51) finish. Melissa Deplanche '15 (Dover, N.H.) (29:12, 54th), Lauren Tidd '13 (Walpole, Mass.) (30:48, 58th) and Rachel Sevigny '12 (Saco, Maine) (37:00, 64th) rounded out the SJC participants.

Saint Joseph's will participate in the UNE Invitational next Saturday at Rotary Park in Biddeford, Maine. The women's race is slated for a 10:45 AM start.
