Saint Joseph's Places Third in Runnin' Monks Invitational

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's hosted the 5K Runnin' Monks Invitational and placed third out of nine programs with 69 team points in the annual event. Freshman Amber Dostie '15 (Standish, Maine) notched her second individual victory of the season with a 20:10 performance in what was the first home meet of her NCAA career.

Dostie posted a runner-up effort in her first collegiate meet, the Rivier College Invitational on September 23rd, and won the Colby College Invitational with a 20:25 time last Saturday. The rookie is the first St. Joe's female to win the team's annually-hosted event since Sarah Willis '08 topped the field with a 20:59 time in the 2005 race.

Johnson & Wales University collected top team honors with 50 team points as all five of the Wildcats' scorers finished in the top 16 overall. University of New England finished as the runner-up with 67 points and was followed by Saint Joseph's (69), Lasell College (74), Lyndon State (139), Maine-Presque Isle (162), Maine-Machias (193), Thomas College (197), and Rivier College (213).

Individually, Maine-Machias freshman Paige Wiechman (Fremont, Ohio) placed second with a 21:05 time, JWU junior Laura Furfaro (North Warren, N.J.) was third (21:13), UNE freshman Michelle Reidy (Islesboro, Maine) finished fourth (21:23), and Maine-Farmington junior Salena Sykes (Island Pont, Vt.) rounded out the top five runners with a 21:32 effort.

For Saint Joseph's, Sarah Cadorette '13 (Lyman, Maine) toured the 5K course in 22:17 to place ninth, Ashley Condon '13 (Sumner, Maine) finished 12th with a 22:33 time, Laura Mills '13 (Mattapoisett, Mass.) placed 24th (23:54), and Audrey Curry '15 (Perry, Maine) was 33rd (24:48).

Macy Pagurko '14 (Augusta, Maine) (39th, 25:52), Melissa Deplanche '15 (Dover, N.H.) (44th, 26:44), Lauren Tidd '13 (Walpole, N.H.) (46th, 27:12), Emily O'Connor '15 (Scarborough, Maine) (50th, 28:15), and Rachel Sevigny '12 (Saco, Maine) (55th, 30:01) also competed in the event for the Monks.

Saint Joseph's will participate in the State of Maine Championship at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester next Saturday at 11:00 AM.
