Women's Cross Country Earns Conference Sportsmanship Award

WINTHROP, Mass. – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) has announced this season's women's cross country honors and Saint Joseph's College has earned, by a vote of conference coaches, the 2021 Institutional Sportsmanship Award.

Led by 21st-year Head Coach Tom Dann Saint Joseph's finished as the 2021 GNAC Championship in fourth with 92 team points in the event, which was held at Franklin Park in Boston on October 30th.

Despite having a small roster, the Monks made the most of their seven individuals. Juniors Kelsey Kennedy (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) highlighted the weekend for the Monks, garnering Second Team All-Conference honors with a 13th-place finish (26:14) and Caity Kendrick (Richmond, Maine) was 15th (27:10). Seniors Emma Allen (Jefferson, Maine) placed 18th (27:27), Julia Heroux (Albion, R.I.) finished 25th (28:24), Carly Jordan (Turner, Maine) was 26th (28:33), and Samantha VanDeMoere (Thornton, N.H.) placed 30th (29:16). Bringing up the rear for SJC was freshman Terry Cassetta (Sandy Hook, Conn.) who was 41st (31:33).

Following the completion of each season, the GNAC presents sportsmanship awards to one program in each of its 17 sponsored sports. Head coaches select, by vote, the institution that best represents the tenets of sportsmanship, which - along with community and integrity - is one of the major focal points of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.

Founded in 1995, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) is an NCAA Division III association made up of 14 member institutions and over 3,000 student-athletes across the New England region. Each year, the GNAC sponsors and administers 17 championships, while balancing academic integrity, athletic opportunities and community involvement.
