Monks Compete in UNE Invitational

BIDDEFORD, ME – The SJC men's cross country team participated in the 8K University of New England Invitational meet at Rotary Park on Saturday. The Monks did not score due to an injury suffered by one of the team's five runners.

First-year Joe DiSalvo (Derry, N.H.) led the pack of St. Joe's runners with a 30:18 effort to place 16th overall. DiSalvo's 6:03.2 average mile was two seconds better than his performance in the UMF Invitational – a 6K event – last week.

Jeff Letellier '12 (Biddeford, Maine) placed 69th (36:03), Jeff Merrill '15 (Fitchburg, Mass.) was 82nd (38:21) and Andrew Mockler '12 (Saco, Maine) toured the 8K course in 38:33 to finish 84th.

The University of Southern Maine Huskies earned four of the first 10 spots on their way to a team score of 33 to take the 2011 University of New England Invitational on Saturday at Rotary Park.

Junior Josh Grant (Nashua, N.H.) of Lyndon State College raced away with the individual title, covering the eight-kilometer course in a time of 28:16.
