Amelia Santos, Junior, Women's Lacrosse

Amelia Santos ’12 (Beverly, MA) is one of the top players and a team captain for the SJC women’s lacrosse team. Through 11 games this spring, she leads the team in assists and ranks second on the squad in points. As of April 20th, Santos has tallied 62 goals and 36 assists for 98 total points in 37 career contests and she ranks second in team history in assists.

Head Coach Anna Gordon:

Amelia Santos is a true athlete. She thinks like an athlete, works like athlete and has the swagger of an athlete.  She expects the best from herself and her teammates and accepts nothing less.  She is a constant student of the game and pushes herself to learn new skills and improve upon each possession with the ball. As a coach, I look to her on the field to keep up the team’s intensity and spark an offensive drive.

Why did you choose Saint Joseph's College?

I chose St. Joe's because of the small school atmosphere and as soon as I drove on campus I knew it was the school for me.

What is/was your favorite class at St. Joe's and why?

My favorite class so far at St. Joe's is Marketing with Ed Hellenbeck because even though he was a tough teacher the class was entertaining and I learned a lot.

What was your first job (actually received a paycheck)?

My first and current job is scooping ice cream at Treadwells in Peabody, MA.

Who would you like to trade places for a day with and why?

Larry Bird. I mean, who wouldn't want to step into his shoes. He was one of the best basketball players to ever come through the NBA and Boston.

What is on your "Bucket List?"

I would love to travel through Europe and Australia.

Talent you'd most like to have:

To be able to dance. I'm absolutely horrible, you could say I have two left feet.

What do you drive?

A Lexus

What is your motto?

"Find out who you are, and do it on purpose."

Do you have any superstitions before you go into a big game?

I always say a prayer before warm-ups are done. Also, on the ride to the field I always have to eat a Spiderman fruit snack.

Why did you choose your jersey #?

Well, here at St. Joe's I've been #16 because it was the only even jersey number with two digits. But I switched this season to #22 because it was my high school number.

What is your most memorable moment as an athlete at SJC?

My most memorable moment is getting a hat trick in our quadruple overtime win against Norwich.

Who has had the greatest impact on your life?

My parents and my brother. They have always been there to support me through anything and made me into the person I am today. I love them very much and appreciate everything they have done for me.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

I see myself working for a Boston sports team and living in the city.

If you could meet anyone (past or present) who would it be and why?

What are your hobbies?

I like working out, playing any kind of sport, and in the summer I love going to the beach.

What is your ideal day away from athletics?

My ideal away from athletics is definitely up at my aunt’s lake house in NH. Nothing beats the quiet and relaxation with my family.

Do you plan on playing sports or coaching after you graduate?

After I graduate I definitely want to coach. I've been helping out with my high school lax team since I graduated and I absolutely love it.

What are your personal and team goals for this season?

My personal goal for this season is to double my stats. My team goals are to win GNAC's and beat Emerson!

Anything else you'd like to add?

I have my grandfather’s initials and dates written on my cleats. He passed away just before the season started my freshman year of college. He was a big part of my life and a big supporter. It gives me that extra push to know he is up there watching me play every single game.
