Annie Roberts, Sophomore, Swimming

Annie Roberts is a sophomore swimmer, and Nursing major, from Hopkinton, NH. As a freshman, she participated in 20 different events and was selected, by a vote of her teammates, as the SJC representative on the 2009 GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team. This season, Roberts has participated mainly in the backstroke events and has three runner-up finishes and six third-place performances overall.

SJC Swimming Head Coach Rick Horr:

Annie is a big part of our team approach.

At my first team meeting here at SJC, I said that the only way we would be successful is to be a team. Annie bought into this from that meeting and didn't stop. She works so hard in and out of the water to try and make herself a better swimmer, but her true focus is being the best teammate possible. Her voice is loudest in the closest races, her focus tends to be more on the success of others on the team, and how we as a team interact with our competitors. This was recognized by the team voting her as the SJC representative to the 2009 GNAC All Sportsmanship Team.

This year is no different. She has continued where she left off last year. She and I talk frequently about how things can be better for the team and was the first to jump up and offer her support in organizing our first ever "Think Pink" meet in support of the fight against breast cancer.

The intangibles she brings to the team are immeasurable and are one of the reasons we have been such a close knit team from the first day I started coaching this program.

Coaching little league baseball has always seemed interesting to me.

What are your personal and team goals for this season?
Making New England's for myself, as for the team I think by finishing so well at GNAC's we've achieved what we set for a goal at the beginning of the season, but I would really like to see as many people qualify for New England's as possible.
