About Julia:

After her illustrious career is complete, Julia Ostrowski will be remembered for being one of the very best field hockey players in SJC program history. She entered her senior season as the program leader in career assists (32) and points (88) and her play, as well as her leadership ability, has been key in the Monks' progression in becoming one of the top programs in the area. For her efforts she was named NFHCA All-Region as a sophomore and collected NAC Second Team honors as a junior. Although her athletic achievements are lofty, perhaps more impressive is her performance in the classroom. Through her junior year, Ostrowski carried a 3.94 GPA as a Finance and Accounting major. She is a three-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Academic honoree and has been named as the Saint Joseph's College Female Student-Athlete of the Year for two straight years.

Field Hockey Head Coach Rupert Lewis:

Julia has been a huge contributor to the field hockey program. She has consistently been a top player, year to year here at St. Joe's. This being her senior year I expect no different than her last three years. I feel Julia should win high recognition in our conference and if she stays on course she will get high accolades in the NCAA record books similar to last year. Her work ethic and attitude makes her very deserving of all the recognition she attains as she continues to perfect her skill and knowledge of the game.

Julia has truly bought into our system and philosophy as she leads the team with a positive attitude during games and practices. Our team would not be what it is today without her dedication, commitment and hard work. We look forward to seeing Julia's name in the newspapers for having a great year and success in the 2009 season.

Feature Questions

Why did you choose Saint Joseph's College?

I actually received a brochure in the mail for UNE and I thought it looked pretty, so my mom said that if we were going to travel all the way up to Maine I had better look into other colleges to visit and that's how I happened to stumble across SJC.

What was your first job?

My first official job, other than babysitting, was as a sales associate/cashier at Aeropostale. I started in November, just in time for the holiday season-it was awful.

Who would you like to trade places for a day with and why?

This is a hard one, but if I had to choose just one person it would be Donald Trump so I can see what it feels like to basically own New York City haha.

What is on your "Bucket List?"

1. Go Skydiving 2. Travel to as many places as possible 3. Participate in either a marathon or a triathlon.

Talent you'd most like to have:

I would love to be able to fly!

What do you drive?

1994 Volkswagen Jetta.

What is your motto?

Everything happens for a reason.

Do you have any superstitions before you go into a big game?

I have a bunch of songs that I listen to in order to pump me up however; I always listen to the Any Given Sunday speech by Al Pacino.

What is your most memorable moment as an athlete at SJC?

My sophomore year, after defeating Wheaton in two rounds of penalty strokes in the Semi-Final game of the ECAC tournament, the referee made a mistake on how the second round of penalty strokes was to be played. It was decided that we had to travel to New England College in New Hampshire to finish out the round of strokes. We won the round and got to play in the championship game.

Who has had the greatest impact on your life?

My family is my rock. We are so close and always there for each other no matter what. I have a great support system.

Can you tell us something about you that most people don't know?

I have a great imitation of Sid, the sloth from the movie Ice Age. It's basically speaking with an obnoxious lisp and now it's the new language of the field hockey team!

Where do you see yourself in five years?

I see myself working for a large accounting firm in or around the Boston area, settling down and starting a life for myself.

If you could meet anyone (past or present) who would it be and why?

Another hard one but I think I would love to meet Princess Diana. She was such an amazing person and had a huge heart.

What are your hobbies?

Playing almost any sport, running, hiking, snowboarding, waterskiing, jet skiing, being with friends and family...

What is your ideal day away from athletics?

A gorgeous sunny day spent at the beach with no school work that has to be done.

Do you plan on playing sports or coaching after you graduate?

I'm hoping to play in women's leagues and pick up games and what not, but as far as coaching goes, I don't really see myself being a coach. However, I would like to be involved with the local teams in some way.

What are your personal and team goals for your senior season?

My personal goal would be to really make the best of this season because I will never be able to have this experience again. The goal that I have for the team is to win the NAC and make our first appearance in the NCAA tournament.
