Jeremy Allen '10 will begin his senior year this fall as a second-year captain of the men's cross country team and will cap his final year at Saint Joseph's as a member of the men's lacrosse team. In three seasons as a runner for Head Coach Tom Dann, Allen has achieved six top-ten finishes and placed as a top three runner for the Monks in 21 of 25 races in which he has competed. In two seasons as a men's lacrosse player, Allen has played in 20 games with 11 ground balls. He also is a member of the Saint Joseph's Ultimate club team.

Cross Country Head Coach Tom Dann:

Jeremy has been a huge contributor to the cross country program. He has consistently been one of our top three runners throughout his SJC career and senior year should be no different. In fact, he will likely be our top competitor this coming fall season. This would be very deserving, as he has worked very hard to continue to improve his 8K race performance. Jeremy has truly bought into our system here and, as our captain for the second straight year, he leads the team with a positive attitude in every way. This team would not be what it is today without him. We look forward to a very solid year for Jeremy and the team in 2009.

Men's Lacrosse Head Coach Mike Edgar:

Jeremy has improved greatly over the past two seasons in lacrosse. Having never played he has worked hard to master the basic skills and is willing to help the team however he can. Although not our largest player, is never afraid to get into a ground ball scrum in an effort to possess the ball. He is a team favorite among the other lacrosse players and he continues to improve every day. His cross country training has helped him maintain the ability to run for long periods of time, which has allowed him to focus on other skills.

Feature Questions

Why did you choose Saint Joseph's College?

I chose St. Joe's because I knew that it wasn't like any other school I had applied to. I had only visited one other school before visiting here and I had my mind set after leaving here from Open House. Everyone knows everyone for the most part, and you can make friends so easily. The athletics part is a huge plus, it's really a privilege to be a captain of a team here at St. Joe's College.

What was your first job?

My first job that I ever received a paycheck for was actually umpiring Little League games for the Rutland Town Recreation. I made like 30 dollars a game, so it wasn't bad money.

Can you tell us about your summer job here at St. Joe's?

The summer here at St. Joe's has been pretty quiet for the most part. I'm working in the Alfond Center and also for GPS. It's always a pleasure to be able to work with faculty and staff here. Being one of 4 people to work the desk in the Alfond Center, you really get to interact with the teachers, staff, and coaches. I feel like this summer will make my senior year, a little bit easier.

Who would you like to trade places for a day with and why?

I would probably trade places with 2nd Basemen, Dustin Pedroia. That young man reminds me so much of myself. He has been told by coaches and friends that he is too small to succeed in the majors. Well the accolades speak for themselves. Rookie of the Year, American League MVP, World Champions in 2007.

What is on your "Bucket List?"

I'd like to be able to coach a high school wrestling squad to a state championship. I'd also like to be able to run a marathon in less then 3 hours. Last but not least, I'd like to travel to Europe with a close friend from back home.

Talent you'd most like to have:

Hmmm, tough question. I wish I could jump high enough to dunk. I wish I could fly haha. That would be the best talent ever.

What do you drive?

I drive a black 2002 Ford Focus.

What is your motto?

It's actually not my motto, it's from my favorite athlete Cael Sanderson. "Unless you continuously work, evolve and innovate, you will learn a quick and painful lesson from someone who has." It's a great quote meaning, if you don't work for what you want, then the competition isn't going to get any easier.

Do you have any superstitions before you go into a big game?

I don't really have a superstitions, I basically find the mind set I like to be in, which is focused and then I pop in the Ipod and listen to my music.

What is your most memorable moment as an athlete at SJC?

There are so many moments I loved here as a St. Joe's athlete. I remember breaking 29 minutes for the 1st time in my cross country career for a 5 mile race. I remember winning that first game in Men's Lacrosse history. I also remember winning our first Ultimate match down in Massachusetts.

Who has had the greatest impact on your life?

My family has made the difference in my life, no doubt. My parents who have always told me I can do whatever I want, as long as I try my hardest. My older brother who pushed me harder then any coach I've ever had, made me the athlete I am today. My younger brothers told me that they want to be like me. That means so much, and makes me want to try harder so that they can be great.

Can you tell us something about you that most people don't know?

Most people don't know that I have cauliflower ear. I got it from wrestling in high school. You see it a lot in the UFC, and I have it so ask if you want to see it, I guess.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

In five years, I'd like to see myself graduated with a master's in Physical Education and teaching at a school in New England. Coaching a high school wrestling team. I might travel to Europe to see something new, who knows?

If you could meet anyone (past or present) who would it be and why?

I would like to meet Steve Prefontaine. His name should speak for itself.

What are your hobbies?

Listening to music, singing, dancing, wrestling, movies, cuddling, hanging out, naps, road trips, swimming, wiffle ball, baseball, lax, basketball, running...basically anything

What is your ideal day away from athletics?

My ideal away from athletics would be our day off during cross country season. Usually a Monday, but regardless, feels awesome to have no racing for another 4-5 days.

Do you plan on playing sports or coaching after you graduate next year?

I would love to be able to coach a high school wrestling team. I've loved that sport for a long time and don't want to let it get away from me. I would also like to play some club sports at graduate school. Maybe play some more Ultimate or maybe just compete in Intramurals.

What are your personal and team goals for your senior season?

My personal goals for Cross Country next year are:
1. To break 28 minutes in a 5 mile race.
2. To finish in the top 5 at the GNAC race.
3. To finish in the top 30 at the State of Maine race.

Some team goals I would like for the senior year:
1. I'd like to see us be in the top 3 in GNAC
2. Place top 5 in the State of Maine race.
