St. Joe's Hosts National Girls and Women in Sports Day

STANDISH, ME - Saint Joseph's College hosted a National Girls and Women in Sports Day event on Sunday, February 28th at the Harold Alfond Center.

The two-hour sports clinic was free for girls in grades 4-8 and Saint Joseph's varsity female athletes from the soccer, field hockey, volleyball, cross country, basketball, softball, lacrosse and cheerleading teams provided instruction to the group. St. Joe's has hosted the NGWSD for four consecutive years and this year's turnout was the highest in those four years.

The event was one of more than 1,000 taking place across the country for National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Congress has proclaimed this national day each year since 1987, as it recognizes the progress of girls and women in sports and the benefits that sports and fitness activities can bring to the lives of all girls and women. The Day is organized nationally by the Girl Scouts of the USA, Girls Incorporated, National Association for Girls and Women in Sport, the National Women's Law Center and the Women's Sports Foundation.
