Baseball Announces Coaching Staff Additions

STANDISH, ME – Former local high school coaches Jim Cronin and Greg Souza have been hired as assistants for the Saint Joseph's College Baseball program.

Cronin comes to St. Joe's after heading up the Scarborough High School Baseball program for the last four seasons. Cronin, the 2010 SMAA Coach of the Year, guided the Red Storm to four SMAA tournament appearances including a trip to the Western Maine Championship game in 2009.

Souza worked as an assistant at Westbrook High School for the last four seasons and helped lead the Blue Blazes to a collective 45-13 record as a staff member. Souza also served as the head coach of the Westbrook Legion team for the past two summers.

"I am very excited about what Jim Cronin and Greg Souza will bring to our coaching staff," adds Head Coach Will Sanborn '86. "I have known both Greg and Jim for many years and they bring a wealth of baseball knowledge and experience to the table. We share the same philosophy about the role of coaches in developing young men – not just baseball players. Jim and Greg both have an incredible work ethic and will add a great deal to our recruiting efforts.  They are already doing a fine job as our fall baseball season is off to a good start."

Saint Joseph's posted a 35-13 overall record and went 11-3 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play in 2010. The Monks captured a conference championship for the fifth time in six years and, for the fourth time since 2006, advanced to the NCAA Tournament under Coach Sanborn, who is entering his 19th season as the Monks' skipper.
