Saint Joseph's to Host 2011 GNAC Baseball Championship

STANDISH, ME – The final two days of the 2011 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Baseball Tournament will be played at Larry Mahaney Diamond on the campus of Saint Joseph's College.

Mahaney Diamond will host the GNAC semifinal round on Saturday, April 30th and the championship on Sunday, May 1st. Game times will be announced as the tourney nears.

The six-team GNAC tournament begins with a play-in round on Tuesday, April 26th when the four lowest-seeded teams face off to advance to the double-elimination portion of the tourney. The #3 and #4 seeds host the #6 and #5 teams, respectively, in the play-in round. The losers of these games do not advance.

Play resumes on Thursday, April 28th when the top two seeds host the play-in round winners in quarterfinal match-ups. The tournament then moves to a neutral site, Saint Joseph's, for the remainder of the conference playoffs.

The winner of the GNAC tournament receives an automatic qualifier into the NCAA DIII Tournament, which begins on May 22nd.

St. Joe's has been the site of four conference tournaments in the last six seasons. Mahaney Diamond served as the site for the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) tournament in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and the GNAC tourney was played on the Shores of Sebago in the spring of 2009.
