Pair of SJC Baseball Players Collect GNAC Accolades

STANDISH, ME – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) has released the weekly honors for the March 20-27 reporting period and two Saint Joseph's College baseball players have received accolades.

Senior right-handed pitcher Kevin Chamberlain (Scarborough, ME) has earned GNAC Pitcher of the Week honors and freshman catcher Alex Lorenc (Nanuet, NY) has been selected as the GNAC Rookie of the Week. The weekly honor is a first for both players.

Chamberlain sparked the Monks to their fourth consecutive victory with a nine-inning, complete-game win over New Jersey City University on Sunday afternoon. The senior right-hander yielded just four hits and no earned runs while fanning a career-best nine batters in a 3-1 triumph over the Gothic Knights. The nine-inning effort was the first for Saint Joseph's since April 24th, 2008.

Chamberlain, one of four senior captains on this year's club, is 1-0 with a 2.40 ERA with 15 strikeouts and five walks in 15 innings. Over his career, the tall righthander is 6-2 with a 3.97 ERA and 77 K's – against just 16 walks – in 88.1 innings pitched.

Lorenc hit .353 (6-17) with three runs, three RBI and a pair of doubles to help lead the Monks to four wins last week. The rookie receiver has emerged as one of the team's top middle-of-the-order threats this spring and is hitting .351 (13-37) with seven runs, five doubles and five RBI through 13 contests.

Saint Joseph's (6-7) will host reigning NCAA DIII New England Regional champion UMass.-Boston in a nine inning tilt – the Monks' 2011 home-opener - on Wednesday at 3:30 PM.
