Two Baseball Freshmen Gain Honor Roll Mention

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's freshman baseball players Joe Gruntkosky (Peabody, MA) and Alex Lorenc (Nanuet, NY) have been listed on the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Weekly Honor Roll.

Gruntkosky tossed a complete-game shutout with seven strikeouts and six hits allowed against GNAC-leading Johnson & Wales on Sunday. He did not surrender an extra-base hit and only two JWU runners reached third base during his outing.

The freshman right-hander has developed into a weekend starter for the Monks and is 1-1 with a 1.62 ERA in six appearances this season. Gruntkosky has struck out 16 with 13 hits and five walks allowed in 16.2 innings and opponents are currently hitting .217 off him. The honor roll mention is the first of his career.

Lorenc hit .353 (6-17) with four runs, two doubles and five RBI in a 5-2 week for Saint Joseph's College. The first-year slugger is currently hitting .304 (24-79) with eight doubles, a home run, and 16 RBI. The Monks are 15-3 with Lorenc hitting in the cleanup slot.

Lorenc, the GNAC Rookie of the Week on March 28th, has now been listed on the conference honor roll twice this season.

Saint Joseph's will host GNAC-rival Suffolk University on Saturday in a twinbill slated to begin at 12:00 PM.
