Steve Merrill Added to Baseball Coaching Staff

STANDISH, ME - Head Coach Will Sanborn '86 has announced that local legend Steve Merrill has been added to the Saint Joseph's Baseball coaching staff.

Merrill brings an impressive coaching and playing resume to the table with 34 years of experience as a head coach at the high school and legion level. His Yarmouth High School team captured three State Championships and at one point put together a 44-game winning streak.

A graduate of Deering High School, Merrill went on to pitch at the University of Massachusetts for four years before starring as a member of several different Portland Twilight League and Maine Senior League teams. In recognition of his coaching and playing prowess, Merrill was inducted into the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006.

"Coach Merrill is a great addition to our strong and experienced coaching staff," adds Coach Sanborn. "Steve has a real love of the game and a passion for "thinking and talking baseball." and his experience and knowledge will add a great deal to our team. It is exciting to add someone who has such a great background in athletic administration and baseball  to our staff. Coach Merrill shares our philosophy of developing young men on and off the field and I am confident that he will be an excellent addition to the coaching staff."

Merrill became the Athletic Director at Windham High School in 1998 and served in this role through 2010. He now works as an adjunct professor at Saint Joseph's College.

Coach Merrill will work primarily with the Monks' pitchers and catchers.
