Baseball Holds Steady in National and Regional Polls

STANDISH, ME – The Saint Joseph's College baseball team is ranked in the top 20 in two national polls and second in the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) regional poll this week.

St. Joe's, 32-5 overall and 14-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play this spring, moves up one spot to #16 in the ninth D3baseball.com/NCBWA Top 25 poll of the season and remains in 17th in the ABCA/Collegiate Baseball weekly ranking, which was released earlier this afternoon.

Saint Joseph's received 99 votes in the latest ABCA/Collegiate baseball rankings and is the second New England program listed on the poll. Wheaton College (30-4) garnered 217 points and is currently in second in the weekly rankings.

The Monks collected 247 points in the D3baseball.com/NCBWA poll, behind only #5 Wheaton College (535 points) and #16 Eastern Connecticut State University (275 points) among New England teams earning mention.

With 27 points, St. Joe's remains in the #2 spot in the NEIBA regional poll, behind Wheaton College (32 points) and ahead of Keene State College (25-9, 23 points), Trinity College (23-8, 21 points), Eastern Connecticut (22-8, 13 points), Western New England University (23-9, 13 points), Amherst College (19-7, 7 points), and Salem State University (26-8-1, 4 points).

The Monks have completed the GNAC regular season and head into the conference tournament as the top seed for the second consecutive season and the third time in five years as a league member. Saint Joseph's will play #4 Suffolk University - which needed 11 innings to tip #5 Albertus Magnus College, 7-6, in a tourney play-in game on Tuesday - at Larry Mahaney Diamond at 4:00 PM on Thursday. The remainder of the double-elimination tournament will be played at the home site of Johnson & Wales University in Providence.
