WINTHROP, Mass. – For the second straight year, Saint Joseph's College of Maine has earned the GNAC Baseball Tournament top seed and regular-season title entering next week's conference tournament, which will be hosted by Johnson & Wales University next weekend at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex in Providence, R.I.
Saint Joseph's earned the top seed with a sweep of Norwich University in Saturday's regular-season finale to finish 12-2 in GNAC play, while second-seeded Suffolk University split with Albertus Magnus College on Saturday to finish 11-3 in conference action. Both Saint Joseph's and Suffolk avoid Tuesday's single-elimination round into the four-team, double-elimination portion of the tournament.
In Tuesday's do-or-die action, third-seeded Lasell College will host sixth-seeded Rivier University at Brandeis University (7:00 PM), while fourth-seeded Johnson & Wales hosts fifth-seeded Albertus Magnus College (6:00 PM).
Tuesday's winners will earn spots into the four-team, double-elimination portion of the tournament. On Thursday, May 5, the Rivier-Lasell winner will be at Suffolk taking on the Rams, while the Albertus-JWU winner will be at Saint Joseph's facing the Monks.
JWU, as a predetermined host, will host the Saturday and Sunday portion of the GNAC Tournament. The winner of the GNAC Tournament earns an automatic berth into the NCAA DIII Baseball Tournament, which begins with regional play on Wednesday, May 18th.
