SJC Men Win 2023 Season Opener

RUMFORD, Maine - The Saint Joseph's College men's alpine ski team opened the 2023 season by winning a giant slalom race at Black Mountain on Saturday. The Monks notched the third team victory in program history after tallying nine place points with a 3:19.86 composite time.

St. Joe's featured a pair of athletes at the podium for just the third time (41 races over 4+ seasons). Junior Liam Strobeck (Charlotte, Vt.) earned the 11th individual victory of his college career with a 1:04.65 (32.76, 31.89) performance and freshman Logan Davis (Naples, Maine) kicked off his career with a third-place finish on a 1:07.13 (34.24, 32.89) effort.

UMaine-Farmington finished a close second with 14 place points and a 3:22.67 aggregate time. The Beavers were led by senior Simon Spear, who was the runner-up with a 1:05.83 (33.31, 32.52) stint.

THE RUNDOWN:

  • Junior Liam Strobeck (Charlotte, Vt.) earned the 11th individual victory of his college career with a 1:04.65 (32.76, 31.89) performance
  • Freshman Logan Davis (Naples, Maine) kicked off his collegiate career with a third-place finish after posting a 1:07.13 (34.24, 32.89) effort
  • Junior Caleb Gorton (Goffstown, N.H.) placed sixth with a 1:08.08 (34.30, 33.78) time
  • First-year Colin Rathbone (Groton, Mass.) was seventh with a 1:08.34 (35.34, 33.00) effort
  • Freshman Jack Price (Franconia, N.H.) finished eighth with a 1:08.58 (34.48, 34.10) performance
  • Junior Aidan Wolfinger (Bedford, N.H.) placed 17th (1:10.95, 35.68 – 35.27)
  • Sophomore Dimitri Southworth (Biddeford, Maine) was 27th (1:23.34, 44.33 – 39.01)
  • Freshman Jacob Gilmore (Naples, Maine) finished 29th (1:27.14, 45.93 – 41.21)
  • Sophomore Jacob Morris (Woodstock, N.H.) finished seventh on the second run (33.17) after posting a DNF on the first stage

Saint Joseph's will compete in a slalom race at Black Mountain tomorrow at 10:00 AM.
