Background information about your playing days:

Four-year starter, 1979-83.

When did you realize that you wanted to be a coach?

Pretty much right after I graduated from St. Joe's. I realized how much I missed the competition and felt that coaching would allow me the opportunity to stay involved and possibly give something back to the game that had given me so much.

Who is/was your biggest influence as a coach?

Without a doubt, Rick Simonds. Rick was my high school coach at Ellsworth HS. When he got the job at St. Joe's he convinced me to come as well. Having played for him for seven years and then worked with him as an assistant coach for three years I felt I was very well prepared to be a head coach.

What is your most memorable moment as a player?

During my Junior year we beat Bentley College. It was the first time St. Joes had beaten a Div. II opponent. Down one point with 7:30 minutes to go in the game we stalled for the last shot. I got fouled with :01 on the clock and made both free throws.

What is your most memorable moment as a coach?

Really too many great moments to single out just one.

What is your funniest or most embarrassing moment as a coach?

At UMF I slipped on a wet spot on the floor and landed flat on my back while the game was going on. I'm sure the players on the bench had a good laugh about that one!

Most famous person you've met:

Dr. J-Julius Erving

If you could meet one person, living or deceased, who would it be and why?

Jack Nicklaus. Growing up watching golf he was the greatest golfer of that time. I'm sure Tiger Woods will easily surpass his records someday, but he is still a legend in my mind.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don't know:

I used to be able to play the trumpet, trombone, and baritone. I had to make a choice between the band and basketball. I think I made the right choice!

Hobbies away from your sport:

Golf, working around my house, watching my children play sports.

What you look for in a player when recruiting:

A player who is a team player first and foremost. One who doesn't care who gets the credit as long as the team is successful. I am looking for players who want to be pushed to reach their fullest potential. A player who is not afraid to work hard to achieve their goals. I also want players who are serious about their academics.

What do you do in the off-season?

Recruiting is really a year round commitment. I also enjoy spending time with my family. Give me a nice sunny day at the beach with my family and I'm pretty happy.

What do you expect from your team in the upcoming season?

I expect that we will play as a team, play extremely hard, and work hard everyday to get better. If we can do those three things we will have a successful season.
