Monks Subdue Nighthawks

BROOKLINE, MA -- Saint Joseph's College staved off a late flurry by Newbury College and held on for a 76-65 victory.

The Nighthawks gave the Monks a scare when, after trailing by as many as 17 in the second half, they cut the deficit to 10 before St. Joe's handed Newbury the dagger. Junior Marcus Alexander (Niceville, Niceville, FL) drained a three-pointer that effectively put the game out of reach for the Nighthawks. Newbury could not solve Saint Joseph's potent offensive attack.

The Monks were led by Elbie Murphy, who scored 19 points. Chad Pulkkinen (Windham, Windham, ME) Noah LaRoche (Exeter/Exeter, NH) and Matt Plummer (Naples/Maples, ME) all hit for 15. Arch Mitchell led all scorers with 20 points for the Nighthawks.

Newbury falls to 7-8, while Saint Joseph's College improves to 9-5.

Next game for the Monks is at home versus the Thomas College Terriers on Wednesday, January 25 at 7 PM.
