STANDISH, MAINE - Freshman Elbie Murphy (Loudonville, NY) scored
19 of his team-high 21 points in the second half as the Saint
Joseph's College Monks (16-7) overcame a one-point half-time
deficit (20-21) to hold off the U-Maine Fort Kent Bengals (12-14),
75-69. The Monks also got assistance from juniors Matt Plummer
(Naples, ME) with 14 points and 6 rebounds, and Marcus Alexander
(Niceville, FL) with 13 points and 9 boards.
Rytis Kriunas (Vilnius, Lithuania) led the Bengals and all scorers
with 25 points, while teammates Darius Parker Wyitapitlock, ME) and
Billy Russo (Farmington, ME) each contributed 14. Russo also pulled
down 10 rebounds and Hamill Bassue (St. Kitts, SKB), 12.
Sunday found the Monks hosting the Owls of U-Maine Presque Isle for
a 2 p.m. tipoff. The Monks, led by Matt Plummer's 14 points and 8
boards, dominated the court, going into the break up 36-18. The
entire Monks bench got minutes in this contest, closing it out at
71-34.
The Owls were led by freshman Brett Miles (Littleton, ME) with 11
points and sophomore captain Jon Cooley (Palms, CA) with 10
rebounds.
Saint Joseph's hosts the Nighthawks of Newbury College (MA) for
Senior Night in a double-header with the women, Tues., Feb. 21, at
7:30 PM.
