Nighthawks Surprise Monks

Brookline, MA - Playing in the last home game of their careers, senior Sonny Abraham (Lynn, MA/Lynn English) and senior Steven Morris (Somerville, MA/Somerville) and the Newbury College Nighthawks beat Saint Joseph's College by a score of 74-68 tonight.

The Nighthawks were led by juniors Ivan DaSilva (New Bedford, MA/West Bridgewater) and captain Arch Mitchell (Framingham, MA/Framingham) with 15 points apiece in the victory over the Monks. Rookie Heman Honore (Medford, MA/St. Clements's) contributed 12 points for the Nighthawks. Rookie Javon Mathis (West Hartford, CT/Plainville) had the only double-double on the night with 10 points and grabbed down 13 rebounds respectively. Senior captain Steven Morris dished out 9 assists in the huge conference win.

Chad Pulkkinen (Windham, ME/Windham) led all scorers and the Monks with 21 points on the night. Fellow teammates R.J. Mattison (Hamden, CT/Hamden) and Marcus Alexander (Niceville, FL/Niceville) both contributed 11 points in the loss. Elbie Murphy (Loudonville, NY/Albany Academy) added 10 points for the Monks.

Saint Joseph's completes an outstanding regular season at 18-7. The Nighthawks end their regular season play with an impressive record of 14-11.

The fourth-seeded Nighthawks will play top seed Lincoln University on Friday February 23, 2007 at 5 PM at St. Joe's in the Association of D3 Independents Tournament, with the #3 seed Pequots of Mitchell College taking on #2 St. Joe's at
7 PM.
